Made with pride
by George Smith
in Parsons, West Virginia
A native of Catskill, New York, George Smith was introduced to West Virginia while attending Davis & Elkins College in Elkins in the 1950s. It was there he met his future wife, a native West Virginian.
Now retired George was a newspaper editor and publisher in Preston County for ten years, then he and his wife Mariwyn, moved to her hometown, in Parsons, in Tucker County, where they purchased the newspaper and McClain Printing Company and its book publishing division.
He began his woodworking shop in their garage in 1988, making what he called “frivilous junk.” As he got closer to retirement, he began selling his products to many stores including Tamarack.
George often says, “I’m a New Yorker by birth, but a West Virginian by Choice!”
